The 16th Innovation Forum for Automation was a big success
About 300 international participants met on January 24th and 25th in Dresden. Industry and R&D experts shared their experience in factory automation related to the smart factory. The annual conference, hosted by Automation Network Dresden (AND), provides a select audience of specialists a platform to learn about and exchange ideas around innovative automation projects.
The practical examples that were shared provided insights into the future of factory automation. The possibilities of the fourth industrial revolution and the accompanying digitization in production are clear. These developing technologies will help to standardize, automate, and optimize production processes which supports the common goal of maintaining a competitive advantage in the global marketplace.
Experts focused their lectures on the benefits of a networked manufacturing execution system (MES) and real-time responses to everchanging manufacturing needs. Other key topics included the construction of the new 300 mm wafer factory of Robert Bosch in Dresden, automation options in R&D fabs, and the use of virtual and augmented reality technologies in complex automation scenarios.
Innovation award for Magic Leap – Florida, USA.
Keeping with our annual tradition, we presented the “Innovation Award for Automation” which celebrates particularly innovative projects. This year’s winner, Magic Leap, was honored for realizing an unconventional solution for a factory automation system and successfully implementing various mobile and stationary robotic solutions in their production line. In 2019 the company intends to launch a roadshow in Europe with its AR glasses “Magic Leap One”. Innovation Forum guests were especially pleased to be offered an exclusive preview of the AR glasses. Guests made use of opportunities during the forum to try the headsets and experience the projection of virtual images into the real world.
The first day of the forum concluded at Lingner Schloss where guests had opportunity to socialize, hold inspiring talks, and to celebrate this year’s award winner in a wonderful setting.
The international “Innovation Forum for Automation” is organized by Automation Network Dresden and includes the four German automation specialists AIS Automation Dresden, Fabmatics, SYSTEMA, and XENON Automatisierungstechnik.
