Beyond full Automation in new 300mm Wafer Factory in Singapore
Siltronic AG, a global leader in silicon wafer manufacturing with four advanced production sites and 4,500 employees worldwide, stands as the only Western-based wafer manufacturer in a market dominated by the top five producers. This unique position served as a foundation for an ambitious project: building a highly automated 300mm wafer factory in Singapore that goes beyond the boundaries of full automation.
The project focused on designing and implementing innovative IT solutions to enable cutting-edge factory automation. Key areas included layout optimization, the integration of transport shuttles and equipment integration, factory automation and centralized data management. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Siltronic ensured progress through international collaboration and a robust virtual framework.
The result is a trailblazing fab where over 90% of production processes are automated, with productivity gains achieved through a phased journey from manual dispatch systems to fully integrated automation. Within just 1.5 years, 80% of the fab was operating in full auto mode. Key milestones included the seamless integration of new transport shuttles and achieving a holistic automation strategy across all production areas.
This talk will explore how Siltronic went beyond traditional automation, integrating IT and engineering efforts to deliver one of the world’s most efficient and advanced wafer factories. Discover how this project redefines manufacturing standards and unlocks new possibilities in the era of smart factories.
