Presentation
Finding the right dose for a seed cell of automation

Today, automation seems to be a simple way of allocating and managing human and material resources in the most efficient way possible. There are already many established approaches available. Especially high-end and mass production areas have already been aligned with this at an early stage of infrastructure planning.

However, the operation in a complex and diverse manufacturing environment under frequently and rapidly changing conditions entails many challenges in the development of an automation solution. Due to high product complexity, full automation approaches could also lead to poor system performance, as many manual tasks are difficult to standardize.

Therefore, a semi-automated solution approach is required.

The objective of this contribution is to describe the considerations and challenges for our automation approach that supports the independent manufacturing islands to a flexible and efficient high-tech factory planned from scratch.
